WASHINGTON – The Main Street Partnership Chairman and former Congressman Steve LaTourette (R-OH) made the following statement on House passage of amendments to the federal highway bill, also known as the DRIVE Act:
“Part of the responsibility of Congress is to make sure there is sound infrastructure on which our nation of builders can move the goods it produces. It’s been ten years since Congress passed a long-term highway bill and today’s vote in the House is a step in the right direction toward creating jobs and growing our economy. It’s my belief the next best step for this Congress is to work in conference towards a solution that funds this highway bill for the next six years. That’s the fiscally responsible thing to do.”
In June, the Main Street Partnership and LaTourette released a white paper titled American Infrastructure Improvements: The Case for a Republican Infrastructure Investment Proposal at a press conference along side House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and Main Street Members Congressmen Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ) and Ryan Costello (R-PA). The white paper laid out what the Main Street Partnership considers priorities for the highway bill, where Congress could find common ground with the White House, and potential funding mechanisms.
